Ubisoft has officially announced Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Mobile, alongside a gameplay trailer and registration for upcoming live tests.

Today, Ubisoft unveiled Rainbow Six Mobile, an on-the-go tactical shooter that will begin hosting live tests in the coming weeks. Rumors about a mobile Rainbow Six title began circulating late last year, then once more picked up steam a few weeks ago. The most recent round of speculation came courtesy of Call of Duty and Battlefield insider Tom Henderson, who claimed to have insight about Ubisoft's future plans for the Tom Clancy-branded Rainbow Six series.

Mobile gaming has always loomed large over the industry as a whole but especially began asserting its dominance in recent years thanks to the growing popularity of titles like Fortnite. The astronomical success of Call of Duty Mobile further cemented on-the-go experiences as a viable option for AAA game publishers who typically operate in the console and PC space. Of course, Ubisoft has dabbled in the mobile market here and there, with even franchises like Assassin's Creed and Just Dance making the jump to Android and iOS devices. Now it seems as though the French publisher has every intention of doubling down in the years ahead.

Following a long bout of rumors, Ubisoft has officially unveiled Rainbow Six Mobile as an online tactical shooter specficially designed for mobile platforms. A blog post notes that Ubisoft built Rainbow Six Mobile's Montréal-based team from the ground up for this particular experience, ensuring Siege remains fully staffed with a dedicated crew despite sharing an office with the Mobile group. The game itself will still function similarly to Siege, offering 5v5 Attackers and Defenders action that was built with "mobile usability in mind." Those interested in playing the title before launch can now register to participate in live tests scheduled to surface in the coming weeks. Check out the gameplay trailer for Rainbow Six Mobile in the following post.

The Montréal team began developing Rainbow Six's mobile adventure three years ago, its goal centered on providing users with tactical first-person shooter action in "short, accessible bursts." Gameplay-wise, the above trailer does bear a lot in common with Rainbow Six Siege, which suggests the mobile title could indeed present fans of the series with a competent tactical experience on Android and iOS.

Ubisoft previously tried its hand at a Tom Clancy mobile game with the ill-fated Tom Clancy's Elite Squad. The free-to-play RPG combined the worlds of Splinter Cell, Rainbow Six, The Division, and Ghost Recon, but didn't survive long on the overcrowded market. Elite Squad shut down in late 2021, a little over a year after its debut on mobile devices. Hopefully, a better fate awaits Rainbow Six's bite-sized adventure.
